T‹LSEVET Most funerary inscriptions are relatively short, like this inscription of Uwawas. The text is inscribed on a stele discovered by a villager in an ancient graveyard outside the village of Tilsevet, ca. 35 km southeast of Gaziantep; as the archaeological context of its discovery could not be established, it is uncertain whether it was found in situ. The stele was added to the Gaziantep museum collection in 1955. e. The inscription uses similar clauses as several other funerary texts from Karkamiå, which suggests that these are the stock phrases appropriate to this kind of monument.

The emphasis here is on the fact that Azatiwadas smote them, a feat contrasted with the lack of such achievement by prior rulers, a standard comparison used to highlight one’s own grandeur.
